My Great Dane day starts everyday at
5:00 am.
I haven't had the need for an alarm clock for the past
3 1/2 years. The reason ? I am owned by 3 of the sweetest 4-legged
creatures on God's green earth and I wouldn't have it any other way.
At 5:00 am each and every day, weekends and holidays included, my
three 'pedigree mutts' jump up on the bed to let me know it is time
to rise and shine and let them outside.
Jill, Spike and Merlin are Great Danes. Jill is 6 years old and the
mother of Spike and Merlin who are 3 1/2 yrs.
Each day we give thanks to the Good Lord, because, Merlin and Spike
both have Addisons Disease, meaning that they are immune deficient.
They do not have the ability to produce cortisol in their adrenal
glands as normal animals and humans. Every cell in our bodies depends
on corisol in order to function properly.
Merlin has had Addison's disease since Jan.99 and Spike as of July
00. Mer had a real tough time the first 12 months, but thanks to a
wonderful website, K9Addisons, sponsored by Susan Elam and our wonderful
K9AD family, my guys are both alive and well today. Proper medication
each day is giving them the opportunity to live normal happy lives.
To me that is worth it's weight in gold. I can't imagine (and really
don't care to) a day without my tail-wagging, face-licking, bear-hugging,
slobber-jaws. They are wonderful companions and devoted friends.
I thank the Lord and I thank Susan and her little Melody who has
paved the way for so many afflicted with AD.
